"What Have We Done?"
Capt Rich
11/03/2009, a new crew member joins SV THIRD DAY

As Captain Kirk stood on the newly created Genesis planet after abandoning the Star Ship Enterprise after activating the self destruct sequence, the famous question he asked was,

"My God Bones, what have I done?"

I asked a similar question today as I stood staring at the kitty litter box now taking up ¾ of our head floor. Bones answered by responding,

"You did what you had to do Jim, what you always do, turn certain death into a fighting chance for life".

I keep waiting for Lori to give me such a great reassuring answer to my question, but so far, the only answer I've been given was,

"Well Captain Cave-in, this kitty mess was your crazy idea, so it's your headache to worry about."

If only I had as loyal a crew as Captain Kirk.

We now have a new member to the THIRD DAY crew, and one of my MANY hopes is that he doesn't get seasick. Unfortunately unlike the Starship Enterprise, we can't go fast enough around the sun to travel back in time and save the world by remaking the past. We are hopelessly stuck in a future of our own making, first it was casting off cruising on our 36ft boat, now it's having a cat aboard. The question of, "what have I done" still remains partially unanswered, but one's things for sure, if the kitty pees in Lori's bunk, I just may have turned my life into certain death!

I could type on and on about how the above episode played out, but I've learned something in our last year of cruising, and almost daily blog posting. It's often best to not clutter a simple event by typing on and on about it. So I've already said too much when the above photos say it all, time to shut up.

Dorado at Dawn
Capt Rich
11/02/2009, Location tracking map updated with our 0920hrs position

As the sun was just starting to rise over the Mexico mainland mountains, I watched as a 18lb bull Dorado struck our cedar plug lure. I screamed DORADO ON, and the sleeping crew rushed up into the cockpit for the excitement. It took 20 minutes to land it, but our ice box is now stuffed with Dorado filets as we approach Santa Rosilia. I managed to cut my finger while cleaning the fish and then later smashed another finger on the same hand trying the catch the boom as it tried to fly across the deck, but it could have been worse, I could have caught it with my head.

We are 7 miles out of Rosilia and are looking forward to Dorado for lunch followed by a famous Bacon Wrapped hot dog for dinner!
