07/20/2012, Resting at Cabo (is that possible?)
It almost feels a bit not like ourselves.
We plan to leave La Paz and actually do.
We plan to leave Bonanza and do.
We visit with our friends on Hotspur as planned and still LEAVE Muertos as planned.
Heck, we even planned to spend the day at anchor in Cabo for our planned Saturday morning 00:01 departure for Mag Bay, and as of this moment, it's looking like we might actually do that also!
Why the Saturday 00:01 departure? Well for two reasons.
1. Barbara on Hurrah won't start a trip on a Friday
2. An after midnight departure from Cabo will give us the best chance for a smooth rounding of Cabo Falso and the last time Barbara and Gary rounded Cabo Falso they had 45kts of wind.
So in an attempt to start the trip north up the outside off right, we are not leaving on a Friday and are doing things by the "book" by rounding Cabo Falso in the wee hours of the new day.
It was a relatively easy over night trip to Cabo from Muertos, but the bad news is that we had to hand steer most of the way because our auto pilot that hasn't missed a beat in two years suddenly decided it didn't want to head towards Cabo but wanted to turn left back towards our Mexican home town of San Blas over on the Mainland! I know for non-boat owners an autopilot seems like a luxury, but the truth is that out of the 9500nm we have traveled on the cruise, we have probably only hand steered for 100 of those! So if I can't get the autopilot fixed today at anchor in Cabo...well we don't want to think about that yet, but it will be a long long trip back to Port San Luis with a non-working autopilot!
Cabo is...well...Cabo. A glass bottom tour boat just motored by us and on the bow was a girl in a Bikini pole dancing to 70's disco. Aboard you could see a boat load of middle aged gringos all beered up and none too interested in the fish swimming beneath the boat!
We will fit in well here in Cabo, since we are doing two loads of laundry and hanging it from all the lifelines, so the tourists and on lookers can get our patented "Jeb Clampet Cruiser Look" for their vacation photo albums.
Here are a few photos while I have a good internet connection here in Cabo:
This is of SV Hurrah a Tyana 37

Here is SV Sea Raven a Hans Christian 38. In fact all three of our little flotilla were made in Tiawan.

Here we are entering the belly of the beast and going into the Cabo Marina to top off our fuel tanks.

Then there are the Party Boats, where Gringos come down to Mexico and do their part to be good ambassadors of Americans and Canadians, while they do their best to drink Mexico dry.

In the "Give the Tourists what they want" tradition, a Glass Bottom Boat trip combined with a Bikini Pole dance.

It sure didn't take Jason long to figure out that the Glass Bottom Boat tours may have nothing whatsoever to do with looking at the fish!

The Welcome to Cabo incident of a tour boat trying to run us down!

THIRD DAY was bringing up the rear as the Flotilla Left Muertos.

07/19/2012, Muertos to Cabo San Lucas
We dropped anchor in Bahia de los Muertos at 7PM and promptly invited our friends on Hotspur over for a potluck. It was great to see them one last time as they make their way to La Paz for the summer and Amy and Carolyne had a sleep-over up on deck. Lori has spent most of the day hanging out with Meri chatting, playing scrabble and talking plans....as if any of us actually have any.
The plan is to leave Muertos at 4PM today and head for Cabo San Lucas where Hurrah and Sea Raven will take on some diesel and then we will make one last look at the weather before rounding the tip of the Baja Peninsula and going north. As 4PM approaches I've completed a few final projects while basking in the heat and warmth because I know it won't be long until we are in cold weather gear and I'll actually have to wear something on my feet!

07/18/2012, Bananza to Muertos
7AM and anchors up at the Bananza beach anchorage and off we go heading through the Cervalo channel to Bahia los Muertos. It's just about a 50 mile trip but it will take us through some prime fishing grounds, so we hope to pull lunch and dinner aboard! We are traveling with our friends on SV Sea Raven and Hurrah making up our little 3 boat flotilla.
We are hoping to meet up with our good friends on SV Hotspur at Muertos later today for a final good bye. They are heading to La Paz for the summer and it would be nice to see them one more time.
Motoring on calm seas...no drama at the moment...so everyone is happy
