Destination Texas
22 March 2014 | Spring Break at the Texas Boat Show
Capt Rich
In what’s being touted at “Barbecue Fest 2014” by Jason, our bags are packed and at down we leave Morro Bay on the 1883 mile drive to Kemah, Texas. The Texas boat show, according to Lori, is just providing cover for a father and son quest to explore and indulge in famous Texas BBQ. I’ll admit she it right. My timing maybe isn’t the best, because I’m now 22lbs lighter than I was 4 weeks ago after starting a serious diet, but the diet survived 3 days in Mexico eating tacos, so hopefully the diet can withstand BBQ Brisket!
Quite a bit has been happening lately not just on the work front, but on upgrades to THIRD DAY. 260W of solar has been upgraded to 430W, the new Kiss Wind generator is installed on the mizzen mast and pouring out amps, our mooring has been pulled and outfitted with all new chain beneath the water line, and electrical upgrades are underway for the addition of another 960W of solar. The big upgrade will be replacing our 675AH lead acid battery bank with a 400AH Lithium Ion battery bank. At the end of this rainbow of dollars lies the elusive end to our power drama. If having a total of 1390W of solar and a cutting edge lithium battery bank can’t do it, then we should just give up this boat life and move ashore! There will be more to come on that adventure, but first we have the drive to and from Texas to survive.
