Eugene - McKenzie River - Suttle Lake - Salem, OR
26 September 2009 | Suttle Lake, OR
Trapper -- clear and warm
Following a great BBQ the night before and bkfst at Bob and Sally McCabes with them and the Bartram's, I decided to take a drive up the McKenzie River. A great drive and by the time I reached McKenzie Bridge and the Clear Lake Cutoff, decided to keep going.
Went over the Santiam Pass at almost 6000 feet then dropped down into Suttle Lake.
The lake itself os absolutely beautiful with great camping and a world class restaurant lodge as well. Sadly, there had been a major forest fire in the area that devastated everything around it.
Continued my trip down thru Detroit, Idahna and into Salem where I spent that night.
Headed north to Vashon Island, WA the next day to pay a long overdue visit to my good friends the Jellison's. Neal had lived with me back in the Tugs Tavern days of Pacific Beach and he and I obtained our Tang Soo Do First Degree Black Belts (maybe 2nd and 3rd degrees as well) from Grand Master Jong H. Lee together. We have a LOT of history. He and his sweet wife Elisabeth are both instructing on the Island.
More to come - a hui hou
