AERIAL ORGANIZATION
September 26, 2012
Along our home port waters, we see the migratory birds well into the cooler months. We usually see geese high up sometimes so high it is difficult to see them even when we hear them. Since getting back aboard, we have noticed the noise coming from the cultivated corn field nearby. Then about sunset, the geese fly around the marina area in gaggles from a few dozen to about fifty or so in the formation. Gradually they are organizing into larger flights and this afternoons flight must have been several hundred. There were only a few stragglers and the flight pattern was in a vee formation. My guess is that they now have interviewed several fight leaders, elected one and now are practicing precision flying. There is far less honking from the ranks and it looks like they are getting ready for the long flight south. Who knows? At least they are not walking about the marina and the docks.
