Shore liberty is a good thing every now and then. We rented a car to see some of the land based things, provision and get Scurv a haircut. He started to look like a Westy or an untrimmed poodle. It is a good thing to walk on land a little longer than an hour or so. Bear and I find it difficult to stand straight or walk straight for a few days after a few weeks on the boat. Seems it gets more pronounced the older we get. So, after 43 months in the doing, we are now in our first Maine port. The predictions of fog in Maine are true. We have been here two days and of those two days, it has been cool (a good thing) and foggy most of the day. We are told it is no big deal if one is fairly good at reading radar and at patience. As a 0430 riser, that runs contrary to what will work here. The good news is that there is an anchorage behind some quaint little island about every few miles or so. That means we don’t have to get the early starts and can have that second cup of coffee whilst waiting for the fog to burn a bit thinner in the mornings. We have had a chance to brush up on the radar thing and with a good chart plotter, we might just avoid the ever present rocks and the lobster pots whose count increases as we go “down east”
