This week in Grenada and on Zephyr

It's Monday all over again. We took off on this morning shuttle for Water World Marine Supply, one of the bigger chandleries on the island. We've come to the conclusion that the Xintrex propane main unit has gone belly up and needs replacing. Water World didn't have any in stock but if and when they get it in, it runs $324US dollars. I can get it from Defender for $179!!! There is a company on the island that can import parts and avoid import duties(don't ask me how) so I called them this morning and Sherrie is going to get back with me tomorrow as to how much it will cost and how soon she can get it in for us.
Tracy took the laundry over to the laundry to get it done. Price--$23.00US for two loads of clothes. YIKES!!! She brought it right back to the boat and we started doing laundry at the boat. Now that $23 includes wash, dry and fold but you're better off bringing your own soap as what they use doesn't really devolve in the cold water(no hot available). Liquid is much better here. It's what we use on board. We've gotten about half of it done with the rest set for tomorrow. Now if you only want then to wash it and you can dry it on board, its only about $3.72US a load instead $11.50 a load. Water runs about 50 cents a gallon(YIKES) here at the marina so it's a toss up what's a better deal. It takes about 6 gallons to do a load in our little Wonder Wash machine so I think the better deal is to just let them do the wash. Solar powered drying is easy. We already have the lines up for the clothes.
Tuesday was a shopping day so we couldn't do the laundry as we were off for town on one of the local taxi vans. We get to stop and shop at Ace Hardware, Budget Marine Chandlery as well as IAG grocery store and a couple others to boot. Cost $15.00EC or about $6.00US. We leave at 0930 and get back about 1300 so it pretty much shoots most of the decently cool times of the day for doing projects outside. It's just too hot and humid in the afternoon. Just as well as the weather report for the day said there was a zero chance of rain and we only had about 5 rain storms come through. So much for accuracy forecasts.
In the afternoon, we dropped the replaced ceiling panel in the main salon since it wasn't bending to confirm with the angle of the original ceiling. We found out that the bolts we used were too long and kept the panel from bending to fit the angle. Out came the hack saw and off came the offending bolt ends. The small boards that had been glued to the fiberglass panel above the new wood panel had pulled loose since the screws through the new panel couldn't make the panel go any up since the end of the bolts were in the way. Now, with a generous application of hot glue to the chunks of wood that hold the new panel to the ceiling, all is back in place and it curves nicely. It's going to take some painting to make everything match but thats for another day. UPDATE: The hot glue on the small boards we glued to the ceiling came loose by late Wednesday evening and the board no longer curves to fit the ceiling. Looks like we will have to do it again.
I just finished my shower and Tracy is off for hers. I'm slathered in bug repellant to keep the mosquitos off me. Theres a big out break of Zika here and no one is doing anything about it. Better to take precautions.
It's now Thursday and not a tremendous amount has happened in the last few days. Yesterday, Tracy was under the weather so it was a sort of resting day. I went up for a game of Grenade Train Dominoes in the afternoon. Instead of having to walk over to Prickly Bay for the game, a cruiser wanted to start up a game here so I avoided a long hot walk over and back. In the end, seven of us showed up for a game, all at one table and that made for a long afternoon as seven people at one table takes lots longer than a table of four. I did get the laundry up to the laundry woman and got it back about an hour later all washed. I did get it hung up to dry before the game started and it was nice and dry when I got back to Zephyr about 1740. The game started at 1400 so it was a long nice way to spend an afternoon.
I'm about to head up to try and pay our electric bill for the first month here at the marina. I've been lead to believe that electricity here in Grenada is very expensive. I'll let you know how bad it is.
