Water and back to Charlotte Amalie
25 January 2017 | Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, USVI
Bill/partly cloudy and blowing again
We spent a nice night at Lindberg Bay on the southwest side of St. Thomas and left this morning for the Crown Bay Marina, a couple of miles east of there. We needed to fill out water tanks again and they are far cheaper than where we normally anchor. Only 16 cents a gallon versus 20 cent at the Yacht Haven Grande. We called earlier and were told to pull into slip C12. Two men met us as we pulled in. We were all set to go with our dock lines, fenders, hose and the deck key for unscrewing the fitting on deck.
The two men met us and took the dock lines and got us nicely tied up. It's one of the few places we've had to maneuver around dock pilings. Long wooden poles sticking out of the water behind the concrete docks. I had to back up once to get the proper alignment but we made it in just fine and got all tied in. The last few marinas we've been in charge for their water. They keep locks on all the faucets just to make sure you can't get at it. Once unlocked, we started on the filling and in the end, we took 166 gallons. We still had about 100 gallons left so not to bad as we'd filled up back in Fort de France in Martinique well over a month ago. The pressure at the marina was great and our tanks were filled in no time. I made a quick stop at the local chandlery on my way to pay the bill and picked up some stainless steel washers. Needed them for a separate project. Back to Zephyr, get the engine started and with the help of the dockmen, we backed out and took off heading for Charlotte Amalie. I needed to hike up to the Post Office and pick up another package.
Before we left, we were invited out to dinner by Michael and Susan off Infini, fellow cruisers we've know for quite a while.
We went to shore early and I hiked up to the Post Office to get the "General Delivery" package. We'd checked it's tracking and found it was actually ready for pick up yesterday when we were on our way to Lindberg Bay. Now we've already received two packages here and it went flawless. All I had to do was give them my name and off they went coming back with the box. This time, they wanted the tracking number. It was on the phone that was in Tracy's pocket, not in mine. With out that number, even though I found that the package was ready for pickup yesterday, I was out of luck. No number--no package. I hiked back down the hill and off the four of us went for dinner. It was nice having a group together for dinner and drinks. We rarely leave the boat in the late afternoon but not today. Dinner out!! The bad thing is that just after dinner, it started clouding up and it really looked like it was going to pour, so the four of us headed back to the docks and our dinghies for quick rides back to our boats. Of course, it never rained but it was a bit windy so it was nice to be back on board, just in case.
As we've traveled around the world, I sent back pictures of unusual things we've seen in markets. Todays special is of "Shaving Powder". Mix it with water and smear it on your face and it gets ride of your facial hair--beard. Why shave if you can just mix this stuff up and poof, your facial hair is gone. Strangely, it's made for black men only! Go figure?
