A busy day playing.
05 April 2017 | Diamond Bay, Jost Van Dyke
It's been an active day for us. We started out running the generator for about 90 minutes as we got Puff ready to go snorkeling off the point to our northeast. All the reports we'd read said it was a great place,or at least good place for it. With the generator off, we took off with our gear as well as the anchor(just in case) as well as the ladder we use to get back in Puff when we are done. The point was only about 150 yards but we didn't know what the current was so at the first stop, Tracy jumped in while I stayed on board. She checked the rocks and reefs along the shoreline and came back with a negative comment about it. Lots of dead coral and sand. Not worth the time. We moved down the shoreline and she tried again. I still stayed on board Puff. Again, nothing worth me getting in the water for. Enough already! We motored back to Zephyr and tied Puff to the side(rare as we don't tow her), pulled up the anchor and set off the whole .9 miles to Diamond Bay. We've been here several times and for those of you that have followed us for a while, it's where Xander(our son) took the aerial pictures. We dropped the anchor in about 25 feet and settled in. As it was just after noon, Tracy made us some Spam sandwiches. A treasure she uncovered during her digging into our pantry. Bread, Spam, tomato, lettuce, cheese and some mustard and you have a GREAT sandwich. Add in some Cheetos and Coke and we were dining, not just having lunch.
Once done, we watched as boat after boat came and went from the bay around the corner from us to the northeast. It's full of buoys and space for some anchoring as well as "Foxys Tabboo", one of the local bar/restaurants hat serves over priced food and drinks. Some 30+ boats are in there and we have our little bay around the corner to ourselves(update:someone came in and anchored after we went below for the evening). Now staying over there if you take a mooring will cost you $30 per night. You can anchor but with all the boats, its tight. Where we are has a sandy bottom and a great rocky shoreline full of coral and sea fans. I found three HUGE Sea Biscuits while we were out snorkeling. I'll post some pictures tomorrow of them. They are soaking in fresh water and will go into a bleach water blend tomorrow for an hour or so.
Tomorrow, off to the "bubbling pool".
