We just got back on board after going ashore to get checked in with the Port Captain. From what he told us, we have to check in and check out at every town we go into if there is a Port Captain so they can keep tabs on where we are. We checked in at Huatulco when we entered Mexico but didn't check out of the town when we were leaving thinking the marina would take care of that. No so we were advised. A bit of scolding but allowed to stay. got our papers all taken care of and properly stamped. advised to come back and check out the day before we plan on leaving. All paperwork is now filed and safe. the trip up was 355 miles and 75 hours of nonstop motoring with sails up all the time to catch what they could of what little winds we had. Most were less than 7 knots and some came at us right on the nose so they did no good. The seas were about as calm as you could ever hope for. Mostly flat with a one foot swell from time to time. Once we were checked in with the Port Captain, we enquired about getting our fishing license. They gave us the address which I gave to a cab driver who promptly took us to the wrong place. found a nice man as we asked for help and he called the permits office and even took us there in his truck making sure all was taken care of. Had to go to a local bank to pay the fee($700 pesos-about $34 US). Now we can dig out our fishing gear that Tracy had hidden just incase we got stopped and searched. There is a fine if you are caught with gear on board even if you are not actively fishing. Just having gear makes you guilty with big fines. Now, even though we rarely fish, we will be local. Stopped at a nice restaurant(Banditos) for lunch on the way back for marinated skirt steak along with chips and salsa, enchillada, beans and guacamole all for $10.45US. A very nice meal. We returned to the Port Captains office to pick up our new paperwork and returned to Zephyr. There are man along the beach that will help get your dinghy both to shore and away from short. Cost for the service is just $10 pesos--about 55 cents and well worth it. tomorrow is another day of adventure.
