The days just keep on passing by.

11 June 2012 | Musket Cove Marina
WINDY
Here we sit, sort of stuck in Musket Cove. It's blowing outside at about 20 knots with the same in the forecast for the next few days. Now that's not bad except that it's coming from the North to West most of the time and that makes not only traveling more difficult(seeing the uncharted reefs that are out there) but the island we want to go to has a harbor on the Northwest side which makes it not the place you want to be in this blow.

To pass the time, we have done a few more chores. On our mainsail(like most)there are horizontal grommets for tying lines when you reef the sail. We've never had lines through these grommets so the sail just bags when one of the reefs it taken. I measured the lines needed and cut and whipped the ends of them so when the wind dies off, we can install them. Then, at least when we do reef the sail, it can be tied down properly and be less baggy and more efficient.

We went to shore last Thursday for the pig roast. We'd made reservation for last week, but the wind was so strong, we held off and cancelled the reservation. This week we were joined by Christine and Terry off Teka Nova from Vuda Point Marina so it was more of a party than just a dinner. Lots of fun and even entertainment with native dancers(best we have seen in Fiji) once dinner was over. Dinner was $50.00fijian so I passes on the soup, the salad and most of the veggies and concentrated on the pork going back three times to load up my plate. I wanted my monies worth and I got it.

We've done other projects and read some books and played some games and the days just click off as the wind is too strong to move, or from the wrong direction or it's overcast and threatening to rain. All these conditions make it a wrong decision to move as with these conditions, it almost impossible to see the reefs. So here we sit, waiting for it to abate so we can get out of here. Yesterday, we took Puff to shore and had a nice lunch at the local cafe and then laid by the pool at the resort. Showered and then returned to Zephyr later in the day for a light dinner and some TV shows on the computer. Not a bad way to spend the day.

Our outboard motor is doing better. As you read in an earlier post, we had a bunch of water in our fuel tank and it migrated into the motor and played havoc with its operation. Once the fuel was changed out, it took several times using it to make it run much better. She may not be back to her old self, but she's getting better each time we use her.

Well, that's about it for now. We just hauled Puff(our dingy) all the way on deck. She had been hanging off the starboard side for the night but the wind is such that we felt it was best to just haul her on deck till it lets up some. So now she's all aboard and strapped down for extra security.

OK, sounds like a restaurant I want to try. Nothing wrong with a skull on the sign.
