Almost home
20 February 2013 | Honolulu, HI
heck if I know--it's dark out there.
Well, my trip is almost over. Fourteen days, over 800 miles driven around Denver and 27 boxes mailed back to Pohnpei! It was just run, run, run every day. In the evening, I redo my lists so I could stay on top of what was acquired, ordered or purchased. Thank heaven I'm a list maker. It helped keep everything straight. Don't think I forgot any thing but I guess we will see once the boxes start arriving. from what Tracy has heard from other folks in Pohnpei, just about all mail has stopped coming to the island since the United Airlines planes that bring it in are full of paying passengers and there is no contract between United and the USPS to guarantee that the mail will be on the plane. If it's full, the mail gets pulled off and it just sits and waits for the next available flight that has room. It's a different world out there folks.
It's currently 0255 on Wednesday the 20th. I got to Honolulu at 2300 on Tuesday for a 7 hour layover. This place is like a ghost town at night with the last store(other than Starbucks) shutting down at midnight. There a few people sleeping on chairs or on the floor, but for the most part, all I have seen are maintenance people wandering around.
I've got two of my five flights done with the next three jumps from Honolulu to Majoro in the Marshall Islands and then over to Kwaljene(never could spell the place) and then home to Pohnpei about 12:17 on Thursday. With the dateline, I loose an entire day. Going east, I got to Denver three hours before I left.
Some guy is doing handstands across the hall from where I'm sitting. Strange folks out here. I'd say he's waiting for a flight too. Probably going the same way I am.
So, this job is just about done. I did take the time to sit down and have a nice steak cooked on my barbecue grill at the house. Add on a potato and I was a very happy boy. We could get good steaks from Australia but it's been a while since we had any of those.
Time to catch a bit of a nap if I can while the computer charges. I've got 9 more hours time till I get to Pohnpei and I want all the power in the computer I can get to entertain me and keep my brain occupied(between naps).
Night!
