Rain, then Sun, then more rain over and over again
And the work continues with Yune showing up just after 0800 and leaving at 1700 with a 30 minute lunch. He's finally corrected all the mistakes that Peter did while working here. We've had Yune take every piece of equipment that Peter worked on and take it apart to make sure it is good to go. We've found the piston rings installed in the wrong order so that the oil wouldn't go where it's supposed to. They hydraulic steering pump that got broken when Peter took out the engine wasn't fixed right. The guts and seals of the unit needed replacing. Yune found it still filthy inside with the guts of the unit not installed properly. When Peter brought it back, we couldn't even turn the wheel on it. Peter's explanation--"It's got new seals and guts. That's why you can't turn it by hand". Once Yune re-rebuilt the unit, we can turn it easily by hand. We've now gone through everything Peter worked on so it should be smooth sailing from here on out. Yune is making a new gasket for the oil pan. Peter used the last one and ruined it when he had to drop it off when the pistons wouldn't go up and down(now fixed and I didn't have to order in a new connector rod and piston).
So, we're progressing nicely with Yune taking care of the engine and Tracy and I are onto other smaller projects.
On Tuesday, our Honda EU3000c generator finally started to fail. Lots of black smoke and very rough running. It appeared to time to look for a replacement. From what I could find, Generac was the only brand of generator available. I was lucky enough to run into another cruiser that lives on the island. He had a Yamaha EF2400iS on his boat and felt it would be far better than Generac. He loaned it to me so I could get my batteries recharged. It worked great with out Freedom 2000 Inverter/charger. Kevin, the cruiser that helped us knew where I could find one not only took me there but helped negotiate a reduced price for us(8% off the asking price)and the price they wanted was less than what I could have bought it for on Amazon.com. It's now humming away on the stern charing more and faster than the Honda ever did. Yune is going to take the Honda in and see if he can fix it. I have little doubt of him being able to fix it. Once fixed, I think we will sell it. Guess we will see.
We took up one of the teak boards on deck that was near where we have a big leak and found one of the screws that held the board down was allowing water through at a great rate. We had a replacement board cut at a carving shop in one of the small villages near Kolonia. Now all I have to do is shape it and get it glued down and screws installed and that might solve the leak. I'll let you know how it comes out.
Stay tuned--more coming.

La Panga Restaurant and Marina Palmira office
You put your trash out in trash cans by the curb. Here, they put it in raised steel containers to keep animals out of it while awaiting pickup.
OK, sounds like a restaurant I want to try. Nothing wrong with a skull on the sign.
