Electrical update and more.
01 August 2013 | Oceanview Marina
Cloudy all day-yea!
Well, the electrician showed up yesterday afternoon with test gear in hand as well as a spare step down transformer. First we tried his transformer--nope-still reverse polarity. OK, now it's time to check the wires. We started with the wires coming into Zephyr. After lots of testing, including ripping apart a box in the engine room and by passing a reverse polarity switch, he gave up telling us that our system is so new and so sensitive that it just won't allow the electric to come on board. We even took his step down transformer and ours and wandered down the dock checking other outlets including one for Chakira, a big cat that we have met before when we were in French Polynesia. Nice guys(each with a Philippino girlfriend and these guys are in their 60's). Apparently when they arrived and plugged in they fried their charger/inverter. They are now paying to get it rebuilt. Zephyr wouldn't even let the lower come on board. As far as the electrician is concerned, the marina is wired incorrectly and our equipment is just fine. Meanwhile, the new 220 volt 12 volt DC battery charger is keeping our batteries topped off. We haven't had to run our generator in several days. Jonathan(the electrician) is going to talk to Chardon(marina manager) about it and try and get one of his friends that works for the power company to come over and bring his testing equipment and check out the marina. We are in the clear with no damage done(other than ticking off a geriatric bully in the marina--see earlier post).
Today, 8 of us piled into the marina's van and headed back to S & R Warehouse(like a small Costco or Sam's). While Tracy started working the aisles, I took a bus up to the chiropractor and got my back done again. He even attached electrodes to my back and gave me some shock treatments to relax the muscles. I was back at S & R within a hour. Checked the place out, had a nice cheap lunch(like you can get in Costco). This time, we purchased some ice cream to take back to the marina. They have frigs and freezers up at the club house so cruisers can keep perishable foods up there and get them when you need them. It's getting refrozen there now. We had bought a "freezer" bag from S & R last time were there. It's "guaranteed" to keep food frozen for 8 HOURS!! Yeah, sure and I've got a bridge in San Francisco for sale.
We were back at the marina by 1530 and got everything stowed and then has a game of Scrabble at the club house where there are fans and a nice breeze off the gulf.
Tomorrow, I'm off for town again probably by myself as Tracy has had enough of towns and malls for a couple of days. I will probably visit the Malaysian Consulate while in town to see what we need to do to get visas. Since we are no longer in the rally, we think we will head for Borneo and see what it's like.
I'll let you know what I find out.
