Almost time to go.

Sunny and really hot.
Well, the date is set for Saturday to finally move on and try and catch the rally in Derawan, Indonesia. The projects are almost done though I still have to change out the oil but I'll be on that first thing tomorrow morning. Then it's time to make sure everything is stowed for getting out of here. Winds in the forecast are from all over the place and in different degrees of speed so we will just have to see what come of it when we get out there. We plan on stopping for the first few nights just to get ourselves back into "cruiser mode" from "marina rat" status. It's not a long trip but we have a few days before everyone that is already out there is due in.
We've been in Davao for the last couple of days getting everything settled and the last shipment of supplies was brought back this afternoon after a whirlwind trip to malls and S & R(like a small Costco). We take the bus in but must take cabs back as we had a bunch of boxes and bags to bring. We even got help at the ferry from some of the crew to get everything wheeled on board. We even bought a box of Little Penguin Shiraz wine to take along. Nice stuff. See if you can find it. I think you will enjoy it. We do.
Even before we left the US, we had a Honeywell weather station on board. We used it to monitor the barometric pressure and more importantly tell us the temps in the freezer as well as the frig box. It's always nice to see if it's cold enough in there. The station came with a main temp gauge in the display unit and two monitor that could be placed normally outside. We used them in the frig and freezer. Well the station as gone on to a better place in electronic heaven and we have been in search for a replacement. I've been in three different malls and in countless stores in each and I can't find ANY kind of thermometer. I did see one that looks like it came from 1958 with an old mercury tube attached to a wood plank but that's about it. It appears that no one in the Philippines cares about what the temperature is outside. OK, it was hot yesterday and it's probably going to be hot again tomorrow but it appears to not be important to them as to what the temperature is outside. Hot is hot! I finally gave up the search today. I guess when we take the milk out of the frig and it's warm, we will know it's no longer working. Maybe in the next port.
There are at least two of us leaving on Saturday. Erik on Yela is moving on also. He and his traveling companion(forgot her name) will be setting out to go over the north side of Borneo and head back home to Thailand. I figure we will meet up there when we arrive later in the year. Meanwhile, we have more of the world to see. It's all new ground for us out here.
More later.
The photo today is of the side of the block on an engine from another sailboat that was pulled in shortly after we got here. Apparently, he didn't check the oil in his engine often enough and it ran dry and it finally caused the pistons and rods to explode out the side of his block. No way to repair it though it would make a great weight for the base of a mooring assembly. I try to alway check my oil, coolant and transmission fluid before I ever turn it on. Much safer that way with lots less surprises. You can see the hole. Yeow!
