Into Yacht Haven Marina, Thailand
13 April 2014 | Yacht Haven Marina
Sunny and Hot.
Today was the final push into Yacht Haven Marina(08 10.23N 98 20.415E). We made it easy by stopping last night just 14 miles short of the marina not wanting to go up the channel at low tide. We draw just about 2 meters but the info on the channel says to try and come in at high tide just in case. As a clear example of what they meant, there is a nice sailboat just off the marina high and dry on a sand bank. An example of what not to do.
We motored up the channel getting to the marina just after 1000 and due to my amazing skill and Tracy's guidance, we brought Zephyr in like we actually knew what we were doing. Only came close to two boats on the way in and that is just because they were so stinking big that they took up too much room(just my opinion). We were greeted by Christine and Terry from Teka Nova, friends we have followed across the Pacific meeting on and off all the way. We spent the better part of the cyclone season with them at Vuda Point Marina in Fiji. They'd sent us emails along the way letting us know what was ahead of them. Now, we never got most of the emails so they are just floating around somewhere out there. It's great seeing them again and we are going out to dinner with them in an hour or so.
Once in, I grabbed a bucket and splashed down the decks to try and keep them a bit cooler. We walked up to the marina office and got checked in. We were surprised to find that today is a national holiday(like New Years) with just about everyone closed and closed most of them will be for the next few days. Not good timing on our parts as there are things we need to do and have done on Zephyr.
We made arrangements to get a car for tomorrow and Christine and Terry are going along(they know how to drive on the wrong side of the road)so we can go to Customs, Immigrations and the Harbor Master and get checked in to Thailand. With it being a holiday and the weekend to boot, we skipped by the checkin facilities at Chalong Bay and came straight to the marina. Since they have been here a while, they promised to take us around the island and show us the sights and stores we need to visit.
We're glad we came in to the marina when we did as the current has now changed and the winds are now doing about 15 knots right down the channel we came in on(no wind at the time). It was a bit tricky when we came in with the current going across the marina and coming in now would have been down right dangerous.
We had the marina hook up the electrical so we can have fans going and computers charging. I've got it hooked to one of our step down transformers and it's doing fine. I plan to find an electrician while we are here and see if he can figure out why we blow the docks circuit breakers when we turn on the power on board Zephyr. It's time to solve the mystery.
