Cloudy and cool for a change
We jumped in the rental car and took off for Customs, Immigration and the Harbor Masters office early yesterday morning--like before seven o'clock hoping they would be opening at eight. Surprise--they don't open till NINE O'Clock!! We sat in the car, found a coffee shop and eventually walked out to the new offices about eight thirty just in time to avoid the rain that we saw coming. When it rains here, it pours. No simple showers for Phuket. It poured so strong that you had a hard time seeing shore from the pier. Well, with the rain, that delayed the arrival off all the officials. First came Customs, then a while later can Immigration and about ten o'clock, in comes the Harbor Master. We started with Customs but he sent us over to Immigration as we had no copies of our passports. It was the first day for the Immigration man and he had problems even turning on his computer. Oh, it was going to be a long morning! We got our copies but no one had change since each office wanted two hundred baht for fees during checkout. Luckily, an agent that handles the checkin/check out for others came along and she did have change. The immigration officer made us copies of our passports for the Customs office. It took a while but we finally got out of the there about ten forty five. Strangely, they don't stamp your passports here in Thailand. They just staple a piece of paper in your passport.
We took off for Chalamark Boats to put in an order for a new dinghy. They will hold it till we come back in October or November when we return to have work done during the dry season. The patches we've put on Puff seem to be holding but she still seems to be leaking air and I can't find the hole. A project for later I guess.
We finally got back to the Marina just after one o'clock in the rain. It had slowed down a bit where we could walk to Zephyr without getting drenched. We found Szonic cleaning out the frig. Something was just no smelling right and he decided to give it a good clean. With Tracy there, they went through all the food and got rid of anything suspect.
Later as the rain tapered off, I went on deck and made the final preparation to so we could get underway today--Tuesday. Out for a day and then drop Xander and Szonic off so they can get to the airport for their flight. Szonic mad a nice dinner for all of us with marinated chicken and sliced veggies with a great egg drop soup.
It's clearing up as I type this and so we will be off about nine o'clock for a day of sailing if the wind cooperates.
