We pushed hard today and just kept on going once we passed where we had planned on the south side of Palau Pinang. We got there about 1300 and it seemed stupid to stop so on we pushed with no real anchorage in sight. We ended up going almost 70 miles today and dropped the anchor in just 20 feet of water almost 10 miles from shore, and that was deep for what we passed over on the way. Sometimes, we were down to just 8 feet under the keel. It's now 1910 and the Sun is about to set. We dropped the anchor just 30 minutes ago. We had some decent winds to help move us along as part of the day, we faced an on coming current that without the wind would have greatly slowed us down. With the wind and when the current was with us. we were doing 7.7 knots. Once the current turned we slowed to under 6 knots. When we went to sleep last night, there was lightening all around us as well as a half dozen fishing boats, one of whom dropped his net right beside out boat and then zoomed off. Sure glad it didn't get tangled in our anchor chain. He was back about 0530 and gathered it in(I was up). As we headed South past Pinang, flotillas of small to medium fishing boats came rushing out from town, all trying to get past us as we motored along. Once past us, some actually turned around and headed back to shore. Made no sense then and still doesn't. We saw fishing boat of all sizes as the day went on. We turn here and there to avoid their nets and floats with them watching us as we passed. One held up some of what he caught to show us. Looked like prawns. Tomorrow, we are off for Palau Lalang, about 45 miles farther south. Lets hope for another nice day. We are still a good 300 miles from Singapore.
