Yesterday was a busy day with Jamie from Totem came over to finish the installation of our Harken roller furling system. Since we were working with a new head stay(wire that holds up the from of the mast), we needed to retune the rigging wires. We tightened up the back stay and then worked on the new headstay. It needed a bit of tightening. The last wire was no where near tight which caused the genoa sail at the bow as well as the old Hood roller furling to have to work to get the sail in and out. Now it was being tightened enough that we shouldn't have the problem with this new furling system. He tightened up two more wires and we were set. His opinion was that we had probably the best tuned rig in the marina. Tracy worked and worked at getting it just right over the last years working with our rigging gauge measuring device to bring it to where it is supposed to be and she did it perfectly. It took another hour, but the new furler is all set. Installation done!! Jamie is coming over in the next day or so to measure our boat for a new genoa sail. Our current one is on it's last legs and we want it replaced before we head across the Indian Ocean early next year. While I was helping Jamie, Tracy was down below clearing out and reorganizing two storage areas in the stern cabin. One is primarily used for storing chemicals and glues and the other for electrical things. She dragged it all out and reorganized and threw out a bunch and got everything cleaned and stowed. We now have lots more space in the boxes so I can re fill them(with more junk)
Today we, along with 10 other cruisers piled into the marina van for our weekly trip to Aeon Shopping Center. The marina does this every week dropping us off for three hours of shopping and getting away from the marina. The big draw is the Aeon grocery store. One of the biggest we've seen. We drag along our cart to bring everything back. We load up on cat food and litter so the kids will be well cared for once we set off.
So all is progressing well on board with lots of our tasks getting done. We will be leaving the marina a much better boat than when we came in two months ago.
The picture today is from something we found at the market. These are drinks!! I'm not sure I could drink vinegar but there were lots of them on the shelf. Anyone ever have any? I'd love to hear how they tasted.
