We pulled up the anchor again this morning and set off for Ao Nang Bay and RaiLei Beach. It's supposed to be a nice bay with several nice anchorages in it.

We arrived just before noon and headed for RaiLei Bay(08 00.582N 098 49.829E) where we had a waypoint of where someone had previously anchored. It's, according to our cruising guide, supposed to be a nice quiet bay. Poppycock!!! It was a nightmare with tons of boats zipping in and out of the bay, all full of tourists and sightseers. With all these boats moving through the small bay, the swells it created and the noise of the engines quickly made us change our minds--Eenie.

Off we went, back west to another waypoint(08 02.259N 098 48.182E) that was also suppose to be nice. Well, it was on the fringe of the traffic lane of all the tourist filled boats, plus there were already 5 boats at anchor there. Add in the horrendous noise the "Mr. Diesel" engines make on the small boats and it just wasn't our kind of place to anchor--Meenie.

Farther back west we motored to the east side of a small island in the bay(08 01.979N 098 47.114E). Now we had found a much quieter place to spend the time. The only bad thing about it was that we were on the east side of the island and since all the forecast we have shows the winds coming from the east to northeast, we were assured that there would be a good bit of swell passing through the anchorage. Nope, not here either-Miney

Still farther west, around the south end of the small island to the west side(08 01.882N 098 46.777E),a place our charts say is too shallow for our boat. During most of trip around Phang Na Bay, we have found our charts to be off depth wise. Far and away, it is deeper than we were lead to believe. We took a shot and in we went. We found a constant depth of about 10-14 feet. Perfect plus we were on the west side of the small island so it should be perfect for the night. Quiet other than the occasional small boat passing us by. The swell are minimal at this time and we think they will continue that way. At least we hope so. We are the only boat in this little anchorage and that's just fine by us--MO!

Once we got settled, we had a great lunch of BACON on a wrap(what we call a tortilla) with tomatoes and lettuce with Hellman"s Real Mayonnaise. Oh, what a treat since being in Malaysia, bacon is darn near impossible to find and quite expensive if you do. It's forbidden for Muslims to not only eat but to touch bacon or for that matter, any pork product. Here in Thailand, it's much easier to find and while it's not cheap, it won't break the back buying it. A nice way kick off the afternoon.
