Laundry day, etc
04 June 2015
Bill/sunny with some rain
It's laundry day on board. With everything closed on shore it's a perfect day at least until or if the rains come and so far they haven't. It's raining on the mountainside Tracy just told me and she is going forward to check to see how things are drying. It either rains or mists or some of each just about everyday. Now of course we planned ahead and took umbrellas with us yesterday and that assured us that it either wouldn't rain or what we would get would be minimal and that is exactly what it was. Just a few little sprinkles. Oh well, better to be prepared.
The decision has been made. Pull in all the clothes. It was going to rain. In they came. Some sort of dry and so me sort of still damp. Downstairs is awash in clean clothes. We just got them below and it has started to sprinkle. We'll see how long it lasts before we pull them all back out to finish drying.
For those of you following in our path or just plan on taking off for Mexico and you aren't on a boat that has a washer and drier, do as we did and get a wringer from Downwind Marine in San Diego or where ever you can. We did and it make doing laundry much easier and far faster to dry. Most cruisers simply twist their clothes around the shrouds to get the extra water out but do that a few times and you won't want to do it again. I've attached a photo of ours mounted to the life line. It's worth it's weight in gold out here. Make you wife or significant other happy and get one. You won't regret it.
The first bout of sprinkles has now passed and we are waiting for the next bout. Shouldn't be to long.
In our tour yesterday, it surprised us the positive attitude we felt on the island. Everyone was smiling and seemed to be having fun. Ok, a holiday was coming but the attitude was everywhere. If you have ever been to Guadalupe or Jamaica in the Caribbean, the buildings look like they came right off those islands. Bright colors and well maintained buildings and streets. They even have nice garbage cans along the street so you have someplace to put your trash. We haven't seen one for years. You have trash and can't find a place to put it. The islands streets and sidewalks are litter free and we saw people with brooms sweeping the streets and sidewalks.
Late this afternoon, we zipped over to Eden Island, a small man made island joined by a bridge to the mainland. It's like Cabo San Lucas. An expensive community with a nice shopping center but being a holiday all the shops were closed but we did have a nice dinner at one of the restaurants along the boardwalk.
Tomorrow, finish the laundry weather permitting and go into town and explore. Being a holiday, with most all the shops closed, it should be deserted. --------------030608040800080601000705--
