It's drying out!
12 June 2015 | Mahe, Seychelles
Bill/Overcast again.
It's finally starting to dry out after almost a week of daily rains. Sometimes downpours and sometimes just a drizzle. The hills are all vibrant green with so much moisture. A blessing for the people as this is the "dry season". The winds come and go with gusts last night into the mid 20 knot range and right now, calm. During the day, winds steadily in the mid teens. You just never know what is coming next.
Two boats joined us out at anchor yesterday--Imagine(a German Catamaran) and Davanty(a British couple I think). After checking in yesterday, Imagine joined the boats at anchor in the Yacht Club cove just off the main harbor. During the night, their anchor drug as did Sage a couple of nights ago. In my talks with Imagine today, they said they are coming back out here and anchor probably tomorrow. Never nice to drag and anchor, especially at night or when you are off the boat. Sage dragged but is now on a mooring buoy.
I took our DuoGen wind generator off yesterday and took it in for it's fourth rebuild since we bought it 5 years ago. Just not a good product for use out here. It keeps getting water inside it and that's not good for something that makes electricity. I was there when the tech opened it up today to find that water had again gotten in and fried the innards so another rebuild in in order and with luck, we should get it back by next Wednesday(I'll believe that when I see it).
One of our fellow cruisers went up on a reef while at Chagos and I've been spending the last few days tracking down answers to some of his questions with government folks on shore and getting the answers relayed to him over our daily radio net conversations. He hopes to leave Chagos in a few days and then is should take him 10 to 14 days to get here. With no engine, he's going to need some help getting into the marina and the boat yard for repairs. There will be several cruisers here that will be helping him with what ever he needs. We found out yesterday, that since he bought the boat, he's been hit by lightening 3 times!!! I'm not about to go on his boat as crew!
We plan on doing one more run to a grocery store tomorrow for a few more things and then taking off to a small bay at the top of the island we are anchored off of for a few days, or until the DuoGen is ready. Then back here and get it reinstalled. After that, we will begin exploring the rest of the Seychelles. The rain is supposed to let up over the next few weeks. Sure hope so.
