Bill/Just finished raining
We hit the ground running again today. We knew what we had done yesterday to get ready to put on the epoxy paint and the anti fouled paint so today was a replay of yesterday. Most of the paint and all the epoxy was already down below so that made it easy. All we needed were the rollers and a few brushes.
We opened the two cans of epoxy paint and mixed together a quart of each and started rolling it on. We ran out before we were done so another batch was made and applied. We had a problem yesterday rolling on the anti fouling paint as we ran into areas where the epoxy hadn't dried. Today, we took off about an hour and let it set up properly but not dry. We stirred up the paint and poured it into the pan and took off with our rollers. Again, we were just a bit short as the pan doesn't quite hold enough so in went more paint and we got it done by just after 1100. About four hours to do both coats of paint. Zephyrs bottom is now a nice shade of red. We still have about four quarts of red paint left so we'll be putting on another coat in a day or so. We especially want to concentrate on the water line as that's where the paint get worn the worst as water rushes past it. We still have two 5 liter cans of black to put on so Zephyrs going to have a well painted bottom by the time we are done. As much as three coats and maybe even four if we are lucky and do it during the coolest time of the day. Paint goes farther if it put on on a cloudy day or when it's cooler(early AM or late in the afternoon). We'll wait for a cloudy day.
Today was Mexican Train dominos game day at Crews Inn. Tracy was pretty worn out after the last two days so she opted to stay on board and get some much needed and deserved rest. I took off with one of our carts so I could bring back some food from the store there. It's much better and larger that anything we have here or at Peakes yard next door. In the end, I found them relatively unstocked as it's part of a 5 day holiday(Corpus Christi(last Thursday) and Indian Arrival Day(tomorrow). I don't expect there to be anything delivered till Tuesday at the earliest. Being the weekend, the stores close at 1600 anyway. The game started at 1330 and I was back on board by 1620. It's a nice way to spend an afternoon after a hard morning working in the Sun.
Tracy and I took off when I returned to the internet room. Luckily we got chairs and within about 30 minutes, the place was packed. All ten chairs were full and people would show up, open the door and turn around and leave. Once you get that many people in the room, internet speed tend to drop way down. The man next to me was using Skype so that really slowed down the internet. We left about 1830 and returned to Zephyr for our evening snack and a night of watching tv shows. Not a bad way to spend the evening.
My knees have been bothering me recently with all the ladder climbing so after taking a few Motrin pills, I was feeling a good bit better. With all the moving we've been doing over the last month in dry dock, I'd have thought my muscles would be getting better but by the end of each day, Motrin is one of my best friends. Regular dosed every now and then sure makes the pain much less. For this being our "Golden Years" I'm not sure I believe that any more. "Fools Golden Years" maybe.
The picture today is of our nicely painted hull. Yea!!!!
