Green Turtle Cay

18 February 2009
We all left the marina in Spanish Cay-we were last. I had plotted a course on the GPS. Forgot I was int he Bahamas and needed to stay with the courses in the charts-OPPS-aground again-soft sand. Don't want to go into details other than to say it was a LONG unpleasant day. Finally off about 9 PM after the second and higher high tide. Again we decided to travel that night to Green Turtle, about 12 nautical miles. We anchored outside and got some sleep
Another beautiful day-we checked the tide and depth in the channel-we needed to go in an hour after low tide. I was so amazed at how well the channel was marked-there were green and pink balls all the way thru
Everyone was at the Green Turtle Club Marina except for IB and Rebecca/Passport and Warren and Diane/? They wee anchored out in the harbor
The marina was $1.75/ft and was supposed to be a great deal. For every dollar you spent in the bar and restaurant you got free dockage-of course it wasn't as good as it sounded since the dinners and drinks were expensive and the 15% gratutity was not part of the deal. We did eat very well and the happy hour in the bar was really nice. We all met every night for that. Their bar drink was called the "Tipsey Turtle" rum punch-awesome
Mike and I rented bikes and rode with Jean-Mark and Marian. They showed us the georgeous beaches-where we swam, then we rode to town-New Plymouth. The streets were very narrow-one way traffic with buildings to the edge-high cement foundations for flodding-there were stores here and there-not well marked with signs-hardward, grocery, figt shops. We stopped to have a drink and snack at "The Wrecking Tree". Nice view-slow service-nice porch
We got a good work out peddeling the bikes-some holls-it was fun
