Please join me in wishing Tom a Happy Birthday! Unfortunately it is a very grey day that greatet us this morning and this despite being in the high pressure system with 1034 hPa. The wind is gone as well for most part. However, we are happy not be closer to the massive low and forecast storm over much of the Eastern part of our route. We will let that system get out of our way first!
All OK on board TWD - NW veering N slowly TWS - 12 - 14 kn COG - 80 deg SOG - 4 - 5 kn Baro - 1033 weather - grey and miserable (damp!)

It is a nice morning at sea albeit with no wind and pretty 'glassy' sea. We are in the center of a high pressure system and have to use our 'iron' sail to make headway. We are going in a NE direction and hope to hit wind by tomorrow morning. From then on we should have reasonable wind all the way to the Channel according to the forecast. However, forecasting has proven to be very inconsistent on this journey and we might end up with no wind or a gale instead. The future will show. For the time being we enjoy the calm seas and our steady progress under engine...
All OK on board TWD - W TWS - 8 kn COG - 30 deg SOG - 6-7 kn Baro - 1032 weather - fine

Today could not be different from 2 days ago! We are under the influence of the Azores High and have no wind to sail with! We are under engine as we try to get through that zone (several hundred miles) as fast as possible. So far not with great success as we have a current against us and the speed over ground is less than 5 kn at times. The good news is that the sailing should be great on the other side. There is a very strong low that is headed for the UK and we should come in shortly after it. However, there is a 2nd low developing right behind it and we will have to watch that one closel. All this is still several days ahead but you can never plan early enough.
All OK on board TWD - E to NE (that is mostly on the nose for us!) TWS - 8 kn COG - 50 deg SOG - 4.5-5 kn Baro - 1027 weather - fine with just a few harmless clouds

we made it through the strong low with the associated full gale (force 8) with no problems. Dreamcatcher performed great and we had some great speeed over ground despite the high winds and the sea state. We are sailing in light headwinds now. We do not expect better winds for at least a couple of days, and more than likely longer, as we have to go through this zone and then the large high centered north of the Azores first.
All OK on board TWD - SE TWS - 8 kn COG - 46 deg SOG - 4 - 5.5 kn Baro - 1020 weather - grey and humid but no rain for the time being

we are at close to a third of our passage and to 'celebrate' we had our first serious low giving us winds from the South at 25 kn sustained. Not a gale but good enough to give us good SOG and some serious progress. It will be a bit harder when we will encounter the 'other' side of the low and the winds will be on the nose with similar strength. We are well prepared for it and by tomorrow evening everything will be 'calm' again. On the flip side our speed and progress will drop again.
All OK on board TWD - S TWS - 18-25 kn (some gusts higher) COG 36 deg SOG 7 - 8.5 kn Baro 1015 weather - overcast/grey
