The Naked Boat
04 May 2010
Well, despite the lack of blog updates, we have been steadily progressing on the refit of Northern Symphony. Unfortunately, the cloud of volcanic ash from Iceland disrupted freight shipments to and from the UK (Where Beta Marine converts Kubota tractor engines from Japan for marine use prior to shipping them to North American customers like me) enough that our engine delivery date got pushed back a whole month: It's now supposed to ship on the 20th of May...I hope!
In the meantime, we have begun the interior refit which includes refinishing almost all the interior surfaces. We have stripped all the teak out of the forward cabin and the head and brought it home to be cleaned and re-finished. The picture shows what our V-berth now looks like: Just the raw anchor locker, windlass, and washdown pump. While the teak is out, we'll also repaint the walls and ceiling, too. It should be gorgeous when we're done, but right now the boat is looking more and more like one of those as-is, where-is beater boats that you see people trying to get rid of...but Northern Symphony is NOT one of those!
Our marina has started launching boats this past week and seeing the first few floating really gets the juices flowing! Our launch is scheduled for 18 June...
