The Keys at Last!
20 January 2011 | Key Largo, FL

We have finally made it to the Florida Keys. Yesterday we woke to heavy fog, so delayed our start by a few hours to let it burn off. The wind was light and right on the nose, so we motored. But what a day it turned out to be! Although the conditions on shore were probably hot and humid, out on the bay with the breeze it was comfortably cool.
Biscayne Bay is a wide shallow body of water. Most of it is at least seven feet deep, but there are a few areas that are, say, two feet deep through which there are dredged, marked channels. The water was clear and a beautiful shade of green. We could see the bottom even in eleven feet of water, though the chop prevented it from being very clear.
After dinner, we celebrated our arrival by walking to the restaurant next door for genuine Key Lime Pie.
Now Colin has headed back to Miami for a few days of business including the January graduation ceremony, so he even took his academic robes (which have been carefully packed away in a vacuum sealed bag just for this event). We will hang out here in Key Largo and enjoy the pool at this facility as it will be hot and humid.
