Wind at last!

We just about melted during the last day or so. While we did get to go spend all of Saturday touring downtown Savannah (a gorgeous city that I will go back to someday), it was quite hot and humid with not a breath of wind. The evenings cooled a bit, but not below decks on the boat and the gnats were brutal, even penetrating our screens. The locals tell us that the gnats go away in the summer so it's really a month or so in the spring and fall when they're bad...I'll take their word for it!
After our usual provisioning run and an interesting refueling operation (it turned out that our vent line was plugged up), we finally got under way just as a wonderful afternoon sea breeze kicked in. What a delight! No more bugs, much cooler, nice! We motored steadily into the breeze and crossed the Savannah River where we played dodge-em with the rather large and imposing container ship in the picture. It wasn't too scary as we communicated with captain via radio so we each knew what the other was doing, but it's still a bit daunting to be so close to a ship that large.
In crossing the Savannah River, we crossed back into South Carolina: For someone who grew up in New England and now lives in Canada, it was a remarkable thing to realize that I felt like we had come so far north that we were back in South Carolina!
