Across To The Mainland – The End Of Season & Some Vital Statistics

After hiding in port in Palma for a couple of days while the rotten weather passed, we felt the weather had calmed down enough to go back out to anchor. We hung around in one of our favourite places - Las Isletas - for the first night and then spent two more nights at anchor in Palma Nova (it's a [...]

Let's Go And Hide In Port!

Diana and Simon disembarked from Spring Dawn on Sunday morning in order to get a bus into Palma, spend the day there and then catch a ferry back to Barcelona on Monday. After they left we moved along the south coast to Ensanada de la Rapita where we anchored for the night and woke on Monday to a lovely [...]

A Lack Of Lilos

Another motor-sail today further along the coast but with the addition of an annoying swell which had kicked in mid-morning.

Cala Ratjada

With the weather looking more or less settled for a couple of days, we managed to gently motor-sail along the coast to Cala Ratjada.

Auto-Pilot Fixed and Prepare For Boarders Again

We remained at anchor in Puerto de Pollenca during the weekend. Robbie took the bus into Palma to retrieve, the now mended, auto pilot computer. We took Springy out around the bay of Pollenca on Sunday to carry out some trials to ensure that the auto-pilot was indeed fixed and working properly – [...]

A Couple Of Days Ashore

We had a vigorous sail from Puerto Soller to Puerto de Pollenca on Monday, rounding Cap de Formenter with 15 to 20 knots of wind filling the sails. This time rather than motor sail, we sailed all the way, again taking half hour turns on the helm and with me learning how to sail upwind without the assistance [...]

Footballs and Meatballs

17 June 2012 | Cala Portinatx
Jax/Scorchio With The Odd Thunderstorm
We were up early and motored the short distance from San Miguel to Cala Portinatx (pronounced Porteenash) which is a small beach resort with just a bit of tourist development. The anchorage in Portinatx is quite large and wide and we found a nice settled spot.

Also in the anchorage were Susie and Euarth aboard their Nauticat 42 who we'd met last week in San Antonio. In addition, Scarlett appeared in the anchorage with Dave, Sharney and Boneparte (a lovely 8 month old Bichon puppy) aboard. We invited everyone on board Spring Dawn for sundowners and Dave and Sharney subsequently invited us to have dinner on board Scarlett as Dave had been perfecting his meatball recipe - he did a fine job!

Later on we went ashore to watch Portugal v Holland playing football in Euro 2012. I don't like footie but it was good to be sociable and besides, the bar we were in served nice ice cream.

We had a bit of excitement during the early hours of Monday morning - thunder and lightning and some sharp showers which didn't last all that long. However, there was enough rain to make us jump out of bed and close the hatches - it was actually quite refreshing to be stood out on deck in the night having a cool shower as the night time temperature is around 25 degrees at the moment.

The water is so clear here that you don't really need a snorkel to see the friendly little fishes.
