Memories of Menorca

28 June 2013 | Cuitadella, Cala Fornels and Mahon
Alex Marsh
Amazing stuff...We have managed to break away from the spectacular coast line and culture that Mallorca has to offer and make the short hop across to Menorca. Just in time for Sant Juan celebrations that is the place to be for this on the Balearic Islands, if not Spain as a whole.

The silhouette of Menorca's coastline can be seen from just a few miles after leaving the coast of Mallorca. The nearer we get the more you see how much flatter it is as an island.

Our first port of call was Cuitadella where all the locals and people from all over Spain were pouring in to party on the streets for the famous Sant Juan festivities.

Cala Fornels was our second anchorage which was a much more chilled location because we believe all the locals and tourists were still over in Cuitadella nursing there hangovers from the night before. The difference in architecture from port to port is very striking. From the very traditional Cuitadella to the almost 'pop-up' style of Cala Fornels.

Last but not least of our Menorcan adventures was the famous natural deep water harbour of Mahon. We went stern too here as we usually do in Mahon which was a real treat for everybody. Derek and Daphne took an hour long road trip around the city on the road train which was the way to do it style. Rumour has it Mayonnaise was born here which was music to Alex'x ears.
