Still a Working Town

We left Seal Bay monday and retraced our path through Fox Island Thoroughfore, then across to Rockland, one of our favourite towns in Maine.
A decade ago, Rockland was a declining fishing town. Now, there are major events (Blues Festival, Lobster Festival, Boat Shows) and a half dozen good restaurants to attract tourists as well as a still active fish pier a few hundreds yards (doesn't smell great, but...) from Tahu Le'a. Also, it's home to half of Maine's schooner fleet (the half not based in Camden!).
Rockland hosts both one of our favourite bakeries and restaurants (of course). The Atlantic Bakery has great pastries as well as a small restaurant open for lunch. We went to Cafe Miranda with Cabot and Heidi from Chewink; it continued to have great, electic food (even if the menue is huge!). We also love the Farmer's Market, which we went to yesterday; as well as the shopping! Two great stores that we spent much time in were Achipelago, and a used bookstore/cafe.
The pic shows one of the working (with passengers) schooners from Rockland heading out past Tahu Le'a's bow.
