Repairs

20 November 2010 | Cocoa
Howard,raining,mild
We left the anchorage at 7:30 am to continue further South, a sunny day with light winds, later in the morning the winds picked up again. Last night while the admiral was washing dishes the drain under the sink let go sending all the dirty dish water over everything stored under the sink and then into the bilge instead of overboard. The admiral isn't happy about this so we are only going as far as Cocoa, a distance of around 10 miles to get some plumbing parts at a hardware store that they have there. We arrived at 09:45 and anchored out in front of the town, put the dinghy in the water and got ready to go, first thou as a requirement of our cruising permit we had to phone homeland security to tell them of our location, no easy task to get hold of them. We finally managed to get someone at Cape Canaveral who said an agent would phone us back but no one ever did, but at least we tried. The hardware store at Cocoa is very impressive, we heard stories of it before from people but until you experience it yourself you don't really know. It is HUGE, you could get lost in there, they have everything you could possibly ask for, a lot of industrial stuff, things that are very specialized and the people there are very helpful, they know exactly where everything is and are very knowledgeable. We walked around the very pretty town for awhile, had a ice cream cone, came back to the boat and fixed the sink. Other cruisers started to arrive in the afternoon, around supper time it started to rain, the wind died down, it's been raining all evening. They can use the rain thou as everything is very dry, they are way below normal for rainfall this year.
