Hermitage

12 February 2011
Howard
Father Jerome's Hermitage

Woke up to a perfectly calm, sunny and warm morning, the roosters are crowing on shore and the water is so clear it looks like you can reach down and touch the bottom even thou it is over 10 feet deep. That is about to change however, a cold front is suppose to arrive this afternoon with 20 plus Northeast winds and squalls. Today we are going to climb the highest hill in the Bahamas and visit Father Jerome’s Hermitage; he was one of Bahamas most noted residents. A priest and architect, he built and restored churches to be hurricane proof back in the early 1900’s, he built the hermitage as a retirement home and church, it still stands today as a testament of his devotion to God and of his architect skills.
