Rock Sound, Eleuthera Island

21 February 2011
Howard
Ocean hole in Rock Sound.

Spent a few days in Rock Sound, one of the things we had to do was go to the immigration at the airport to extend our permit, when we arrived at the Bahamas they gave us 90 days, time is running out in early March so we got another 90 days which will take us into June, we should be long gone by then .Immigration is kind of strange because it is up to the individual officer as to how much time you are going to get, we know some people that were given 30 days and some others that were given 180 days, it’s all over the place, the officer at the airport said that in the future everyone will be given 30 days because they want to keep tighter control as to where you are and where your going. We’ll see if that is what they do, it won’t work well for people who are going to the more remote islands as there isn’t any immigration people there so you cannot renew. If your permit expires before you renew, then they can ask you to leave the country and return again at a later date that could get expensive and troublesome. Also at Rock Sound we visited an ocean hole that is in town and some distance from the ocean, it’s a real tourist attraction with bus loads of tourists coming to see it, the locals are earning some extra cash by selling trinkets etc to them.
