Green Turtle Cay

Left Treasure Cay at 8 am, we have to get around Whale Cay- a dangerous piece of water at times, because the Sea Of Abaco is to shallow for us to go through at that location, we have to go out into the Atlantic Ocean, go around Whale Cay and come back into the Sea Of Abaco again. Last year when we done this we thought we were going to lose the boat at times, the seas were breaking in the cut and we litterly surfed down some very large waves feeling totally out of control, we almost turned sideways to the waves a couple of times and that would have been disastrous. This year however was totally different with smooth water the whole way, last year we didn’t know any better as to just how dangerous that passage can be, we should have waited for calmer weather. We arrived at 11am to anchor off of New Plymouth village on Green Turtle Cay, it’s very rich in history, lots of stores, restaurants etc., the homes and gardens are generally well kept and the people are friendly as they are in all the Bahamas. We walked around town visiting some of the stores, took a dinghy ride to White and Black sounds, both these locations offer good protection in case of bad weather, we spent a very quite night at anchor with a few other boats.
