Royal Island

20 December 2011 | Royal Island
Howard sunnny 85F
View of Royal Island construction.

We stayed two nights at Royal Island waiting for the winds to die down, there isn’t much at the Royal Island Harbour but it does offer good wind protection and the anchoring is good as well. Royal Island was originally called Real Island, named after the Spanish silver coin used by pirates who frequented the harbour. There was a private estate built there in the 1950’s but it is now in ruin, developers are now changing the island into a resort with villas, golf course and a marina and they frown on anyone coming to shore there. It looks like they may have abandoned the plan as there is no work presently being done and what was done looks to be in decay, we didn’t see anyone around there at all.
