Maxine's store.
The last couple of weeks have been spent anchored at Hog Cay, it’s got to be one of the best anchorages down here as long as the wind doesn’t go to the West, it doesn’t offer any protection from that direction and we would have to find some other place to hide out. It has a very nice beach, plenty of trails to walk, and generally every few evenings there is a gathering of cruisers on the beach to enjoy a fire, refreshments and some munchies , sometimes there is even a sing along.
Monkeyman, a local fisherman, usually comes around selling his catch of fish, conch and lobster, all at very reasonable prices, what he doesn’t sell to us is packed up and shipped off to Nassau on the local freight boat that shows up once a week or so depending on conditions.
Duncantown on Ragged Island is the closest settlement of about 60 people; it’s about a half hour dinghy ride from the anchorage, Maxine’s little grocery store is there but she doesn’t stock much, you can however place a order with her and in a week or so it will arrive via the freight boat from Nassau, lately she’s been delivering the supplies to the anchorage herself saving the cruisers that dinghy ride into town and back.
