May 17 -18, 2013 Black Sound, Green Turtle Cay. Leeward Yacht Club and Marina
Decided to head to Green Turtle today as the weather forecast was predicting stronger winds and we wanted to get through the infamous Whale Cay Passage to be able to access the Small Bahamas bank to begin heading back to the US. Once again an uneventful passage and the winds did not pick up as expected. Leeward Yacht club and marina very nice! The two concerns about the location is that its located far from the main town and one has to enter and leave at High tide, as the entrance to Black Sound is very shallow. Concern number one was handled by renting a golf cart and we toured the island once again with our friends on Allure. We had a great day. We seemed to be stopping to eat and have the "special" drinks that the bars/restaurants claimed to be famous for. The Tranquil Turtle the Tipsy Turtle etc! But never fear, in between the drinks, we walked on beaches and hunted for treasures. Another great day!
We plan to leave for Mangrove Cay tomorrow, May 19th at high tide. We will work our way up to West End, Grand Bahama to stage for the Gulf stream crossing by Wednesday. Pictures will follow eventually, but I have to post the blog and get the boat ready to head out. Dwight and I hope everyone will have a great Victoria Day Holiday in Canada!

MAY 15- May 16 2013- Fishers Bay, Great Guana Cay.
May 15- 16- Fishers Bay- We left Mangoes and headed to Fishers Bay to anchor for a couple of days. Ken and Deanna on Allure where there also. We walked around town and had dinner at Sunset Restaurant. The biggest memory of the meal is we got eaten alive by No See-ums in the restaurant! We got a ride back to where Grabbers restaurant where we left the dingy. The person who drove us was a paid captain on a large powerboat. I must say, that he started out to be a pleasant companion, but then got into Obama politics which he does not agree with. He was very bigoted and used language to describe other cultures that I will not put in the blog. Needless to say, all of us were uncomfortable. Deanna did her best to share another view but to no avail.

May 13, 2013- Back to Mangoes Marina to sit out some weather
The weather was forecasted to be gusty from the North, so we headed back to Mangoes Marina. The anchorages are not well protected from that wind direction and we did not want to stay in Man-of-War. Also, I had gotten water in my ear from snorkeling and could not hear out of it, so I decided to go to the clinic to have it checked out. Well, what a surprise when the doctor looked in my ear he saw what he thought was ear wax. He tried flushing it and eventually pulled out a piece of "something white" that he could not identify. This first thing I said is does it have eyes and is it moving! He laughed. He thinks it could have been part of a cotton ball. Now as of writing this I am still on ear drops, and it is still tender. One more thing to get checked out when I get home to Toronto!
What about those Leafs!! We listened on the radio and had the heartbreak everyone else did. SIGH! On the way back, Dwight leaned over the boat to retie some lines and splash! his last pair of prescription glasses into the water! We could not see them on the bottom as the water very merky and "dirty".
We eventually hired a diver to clean the bottom of the boat and to find his glasses! Success! He found them The best $120 we spent so far!

May 11 - 12, 2013- Tilloo Bank to Man-of-War Cay to meet up with Allure
Our friends on Allure came back from Toronto and we left Tilloo Bank to meet up with them in Man-of-War Cay. Another great reunion! For great details and pictures, go to Allure’s sail blog. We had the pleasure of being invited to a home on the island. Tom and Diane Carpenter, people we met at Mangoes marina, keep their sailboat there and tie up at a dock in front of a lovely home that they have use of. We had Happy hour on their porch with Ken and Deanna.
What did we do for the 2 days? Walked the beach of course!
