Back in La Paz!
21 March 2011 | Marina de La Paz
Fred, hot and sunny
The second half of the crossing was better than the first half with flat flat seas, and no more than 5 knots with just enough angle to keep the sail full. I experimented with the autopilot and took it off line and did a course correction as we decided to go to Muertos. Of course I couldn’t it to lock back on so I thought “Oh Crap! Hand steering the rest of the way”. Well Penny doesn’t do hand steering so I was in deep do do but I persevered and actually got it to work with the remote. I could turn it on and off and do course corrections all with the remote so thank god for that little tool. We had a spectacular sunset over Muertos while we were about 2 hours out and got anchored about 8:30 for a 26 hour run of 180 miles averaging about 7 knots. Had a nice dinner of tomato soup and a game of cribbage (Penny won again) and off to bed to get up at 3 AM to head up the dreaded Ceravalo Channel to avoid the wind and sea. Well that is what Tapatai means in Tahitian, Fearless of wind and sea. Well she may be but Penny and I being older and wiser like the easy way and that is just what we got. A beautiful windless passage to La Paz arriving at 11:30 only to find out that our slip was occupied as they didn’t expect us until tomorrow. Not to worry, they let us tie up at the super yacht dock with the big boys but we are exposed to the wind and sea.
Gave the boat a shower and took one myself and then a hamburger at the Dock Café and we ran into our friends Bill and Kat on Island Bound and Bill Houlihan on Sun Baby. Nice to be back in La Paz and hopefully we will move into our slip tomorrow.
Called Raymarine and got the data I needed for a replacement control unit and Bob and Kira will bring it down on the 2nd. I am sure that I can install it as it is straight forward with 3 wires. How can I screw that up!
I will let Penny tell you about the dolphin show we had when she gets back from playing games.
