Puerto Escondido to Puerto Ballandra

Today is Sunday and we decided to leave and go up to Puerto Ballandra on Isla Carmen. It was a short 3 hour run with the wind on our nose as usual when there is wind but we anchored with 4 other boats in a beautiful cove. During the afternoon several other boats came in so we are now 7. As we were sitting in the cockpit where Penny was beating me in cribbage again, the sun went down and all of a sudden you could see the lights of Loreto sparkling like a tennis bracelet. Quite spectacular. Tomorrow it looks like a hike on the island is in store but first its chicken tacos. Penny's Two Cents: I have always liked . . . no, loved the smell of dirt. Earth, weeds, salt, spring, fall, orange blossoms, canyons, bikes, you name it. As a kid, me and my two sisters experienced camping in the 50-s. . Our parents would drive all of us up to our local mountains, the Cuyamaca's, and my Dad would unload "the tent". All of us kids would stand by, amazed by the size of it being unloading from the back of the station wagon by our handsome father. This wasn't a tent like a "today" tent. No, this was a huge, two room, water proof, staked out, waxed to keep out the rain, 100 proof, funky smelling tent. It brought sweat to his face and tears to his eyes to bring that flat faced piece of canvas to life. I think that my dad, who served in WWII, brought it back with him from the war (sisters and cousins, help me here). In the meantime my mother brought forth her woven picnic basket which was loaded with bologna and smells from many past picnics which helped to curb our appetites. Oh my gosh, here I am in the Sea of Cortez, with the aroma and beauty of the sea, but surely reminded of the treasure of family and friends. I love you guys.
