Day 7 and end of trip
14 July 2013 | Bell Harbor Marina, Seattle. WA
Fred/ sunny and warm
We had a nice run down the Straits rounding Flattery around 5PM. Sun was out and there are a lot of green trees here unlike So Cal. Uneventful run down the straits but we were able to barbeque a tri-tip for dinner with mashed potatoes, salad and vegies. Quite nice these motor yachts. With darkness we had to stay on our toes on the radar as we were approaching Port Angeles where shipping pulls in to pick up pilots. We were planning on stopping in Port Townsend to unload our cargo and told Paul we would be around 0600. We had to slow the boat down so we wouldn't arrive too early and finally were idling but still making 9 knots so we arrived at 5 instead of 6 but it was light and we made our way in and found a dock to tie up to. We unloaded the sails and rigging that we brought up and went for a little walk around the quaint town of Port Townsend. Very nicely restored and the wooden boat shop is great. Paul showed up and we moved the gear and hopped in his truck for a ride to the yard where Amarosa, his S&S 65 is on the hard undergoing restoration. This boat was at the San Diego Yacht Club in the 70's and we recognized it immediately. Paul has some work cut out for him but since it is an aluminum hull he doesn't have to worry about dry rot, just electrolysis which he has already taken care of. He is making nice progress and it will be fun to come back up for the launching.
Onward to Seattle as Bob and I got our flight reservations from the owner and we had to leave the boat and the marina for a cab ride to the airport by 1PM and we had some time to go. We arrived at Bell Harbor Marina in plenty of time and it is well located in downtown Seattle 2 blocks from Pike's Market. Unfortunately we didn't have time to explore as we had to clean up the boat and find a cab for the ride to the airport.
The flight was full but on time and it was good to get home and have a cheeseburger at the yacht club with our lovely wives.
Great trip and ready for another. So stay tuned as Penny and I head to Boston and Maine in a few weeks where we will visit friends in Boston and then join a group of 24 for a charter aboard the 100' Schooner Mary Day for 5 days. Should be a real giggle as we all know each other and there will be 8 Staff Commodores from SDYC on board. Not sure who will be in charge but time will tell.
