Day 4 San Ignacio to Loreto

25 April 2014 | La Damiana Inn, Loreto
Fred
Last night's dinner at Tootsie's was very, very good. We ate outside in the patio surrounded by the ruins of buildings built long ago and the uprooted trunk of a big tree that fell in 1985.

I had a pizza that was really good with thin crust, cheese, mushrooms, sausage and olives. She cooks it on a barbecue and the cheese is real crusty around the edges. Fantastica. Penny had a grilled cheese sandwich, Bob a Vegies sandwich with Caesar salad and Darlene had chicken breast with Greek sauce. All said theirs was really good.

So back to our yurt at 10pm and read a bit and then asleep. At least we tried but there was a noise from a bullfrog, at least 25 lbs and mating, and that kept Penny up most of the night. Being hearing impaired does have its merits sometime. I got up in the middle of the night and felt my way to the bathroom in the dark and closed the door before turning on the light so I wouldn't wake Penny. Came out and felt for the bed and crawled in. A little late Penny got up and went to the bathroom and all of a sudden the yurt was full of light. Seems that there wasn't a ceiling on the bathroom so the light just bounced off the white canvas a d lot it up. So next time I wasn't so careful and thoughtful.

We had breakfast with some of the other guests as it was included in the yurt price. Eggs, sausage (homemade), potatoes, toast and coffee, just what I have been wanting for the last several mornings.

Hopped in the car and off we went bound for the old French mining town of Santa Rosalia. Unique town with a church designed by Gustuv Effiel and built in France and shipped to Santa Rosalia in pieces. You see the remnants of the old mining operation and it has resumed operations recently. Originally mined for copper and now for Magnesium and Cobalt and two others I don't remember.

After walking around and going to the mine museum, we left and headed for our next destination, Mulege. Arrived, drove thru and didn't think much of it so we probably missed something really good.

We left and went to Playa Santaspeck in Bahia Concepion and had a picnic on the beach. Beautiful emerald green water but a little windy as our chairs would blow over if you got up.

Onward to Loreto for our overnight stop and her we are at the La Damiana Inn, a quaint 6 room hotel that we discovered last year and decided that it would be a good place to stay. So we will go out on the town tonight and have dinner and an ice cream and then tomorrow to our favorite taco shop, El Rey, and then on to La Paz. Check out the pictures in the photo gallery.

Tapatai's Photos - Main
We left San Diego on January 16, heading South al gusto - with a sketchy plan written in sand at low tide (that is a quote from my buddy Ellen Gallant!) Mexico lends itself to beautiful photos which we will try to honor.
