Road Trip Day 2
24 April 2014 | San Quintin to Guerro Negro
Fred
We departed the beautiful Jardines Baja Hotel where our room rate was $32.00 per night and hit the road for Guerro Negro. First stop was Pemex where they were out of Magna but had Premium so I treated the old Dodge to some high test. The road was pretty good with only a few detours for road work a d we went through an incredible amount of growing fields. Lots of good vegetables grown down here. Then up to the high desert crossing the peninsula to a spot where there were incredible rocks, I told Penny that they were way to big to get in the car so she would have to wait! We stopped in Catavina for lunch and made a sandwich and ate it at the new Fonatur hotel in their patio. There room rate was $107.00 for two which was really high so we won't stay there on the way back. Guess who walked in as we were eating...Roger and Jean Wise, our slip partners from Marina de La Paz on their way North. They gave us all the scoop on La Paz and said they sold their boat and are looking for a replacement. They Lso have an Airstream.
After Catavina it was a 4 hour run to Guerro Negro where we were stopped at the inspection point and hit up for 20 pesos for a Squirt! We checked into the Malarrimo Hotel and changed our clocks forward one hour. Little nap, cribbage game with Penny (I lost) and in to dinner. Everyone had fish but I had Carne Asada which was really good. Room rate was $456 pesos or $35.00 and the room not as nice as Jardines. Dinner came to $40.00 with tip and a Margarita for Penny.
Took a tour of the town at night and no night life going on. Couldn't find a damn ice cream store so back to bed.
Morning and we are off at 8:00 bound for San Ignacio and our camp out night in an $85.00 yurt! More to follow.
