Day 5 & 6
29 April 2014 | Loreto to La Paz
Fred/Dusty
We went to the famous El Rey del Taco stand which was rumored to open at 9 AM. We got there and nobody was there so nothing was being prepped so sadly we left without a breakfast taco. We did stop at the tortilleria and bought a dozen flour tortillas and split them with the Spriggs. They were hot and very tasty and worked for breakfast.
Off we went and stopped for ice at a little store down the highway. Then we came upon a line of stopped traffic and had to wait 45 minutes while they cleared away a landslide. Finally we were on our way again and the next stop would be Cuidad Constitucion for lunch. Penny remembered a small gordita's restaurant that we ate at last year when we went whale watching. We found it and had a nice lunch.
Gassed up and took off for La Paz only to find the first of 3 long dusty detours as they were rebuilding the highway. Each detour was about 3 miles long and so dusty that you were driving in pea soup fog!
Finally made it in to La Paz and checked in to our hotel for 4 days, the Posada Luna Y Sol. Very nice accommodations and Penny talked them down from $65.00 a night to $50.00 per night if we paid cash. It is a short 2 block walk to the marina and the Club de Cruceros club house where we meet our friends for 9:30 coffee. It's nice to be back in La Paz and see some old friends and check out the new restaurants. Tonight we are going to a surprise new kitchen warming and I am the ruse to get us there. Supposedly the lady was told that we are thinking of buying a house in La Paz so we want to come over and see hers and discuss it.
Then we will try a new restaurant called Nims that is supposed to be good. Will report later.
