Patzquaro to San Miguel

09 February 2016 | Weber Tennis Camp and RV Park
Fred/cold
We left Patzquaro early and our plan was to go to Queretaro for a night. But we needed to stop for gas and water so we found a Pemex that was huge, but all the pump islands were blocked off. As we threaded our way through the big rigs we found an open island and filled up.

Then we went to the OxxO store, which is like a 7/11, and they are usually at most Pemex stations. We like their coffee and I get a cappuccino con canela, yum, and Penny gets a plain coffee. We bought 4 garafons which are 20 liter bottles or 5.48 gallons and filled our fresh water tank. So we were full of gas and water and empty of grey and black water so off we went. As Penny was looking at the map she said "hey, we can go straight to San Miguel by backtracking 7 miles and forget Queretaro" which we did as soon as we found a retorno. Nice pleasant drive and we pulled into San Miguel and found the RV park easily. I had to double park while Penny jumped out to check in and get the gate opened. It was a tight turn so no big rigs here. All small rigs like ours except two mini mogs from Germany.

We took the first spot by the showers and settled in. There are about 12 spaces here and 5 are Germans. A few Canadians and us lone Californian. We check in at $300 peso per night for 3 nights and then he said if you pay for 6 you get 7 free, so guess what we did. Brought the cost down to $14.50 per day and right in town, walking distance to over 300 restaurants.

Went and had a late lunch at Hecho en Mexico where the artists eat. There was a table of 12 with their gear in the corner. The lunch special was a half sandwich called a BLAST for bacon, lettuce, avocado,Swiss cheese and tomato and soup. I had tortilla soup and because the service was slow (remember the art group?) Penny had 2 Margaritas which she said were 8.5's.

After that it was walk it off and then a nap. So far we really like it here and see why there are a lot of expats. May look at some real estate prices later.

Oh yea, I thought I would try to break my addiction to Starbucks Caramel frappicinos while on this trip. So far so good, BUT, we found the big church by the big square and as I looked through the trees, guess what was staring back at me! I've been here 3 days and two frapps! Oh well, what the Hell, I'm on vacation! Duh, isn't retirement vacation?

Tapatai's Photos - Main
We left San Diego on January 16, heading South al gusto - with a sketchy plan written in sand at low tide (that is a quote from my buddy Ellen Gallant!) Mexico lends itself to beautiful photos which we will try to honor.
