Round Aquidneck 2013
22 June 2013 | Rhode Island
29.5Nm Sunny. WSW15-20 becoming S5-10
Second round Aquidneck race (The Island of Rhode Island).
Niki, Ross, Jeremy and I (Tom couldn't make it).
Beautiful weather. 9:15 start. 1 minute late for the start (got to work on that).
Caught up with our fleet taking down the east passage, once we had figured out the jib sheet track position. Before that we were fast but couldn't point.
Also reminded of the importance of the back-stay tension. It got windy down near Fort Adams and I was spun up. Two or three cranks on the back-stay and the weather helm went away.
Flew Spinnaker on beam reach across the bottom of the island, where we were caught by the speed boats.
Tricky run back up the river. Pretty sure some of the boats behind us did not honor R6 which was a shame 'cos it was in a wind hole and cutting the corner allowed them to catch up, but anyway we finished half way up the fleet.
Nice teamwork. Couple of wraps jibing the spin, otherwise a perfect day on the water.
Visited Tiverton Yacht Club afterwards. Pleasant group of people.
