Spent the weekend at the Vineyard Haven Cup.
Niki and I sailed over Thursday and courtesy of the "Friends of Tom" program got a very nice mooring by the backdoor to the breakwater from Jay the harbormaster. $50 a night and a great spot by the beach.
We raced on NextDimension Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Three "4s" meant we came in 4th overall. First day the wind was 5-10 and shifty. We were well placed until a tactical error at the leeward mark cost us a bunch of time. The Haven ebb was in full flow and there wasn't enough wind to cover both the leading boat and the fleet. Went from 1st to 4th.
Saturday we sat around for 2 hours before the southerly blew in and then had to reef!
Sunday was a blast 15-20 gusting 25. Superb race. Would have done better but we were fouled by a Morris on port at the leeward mark. Almost T-boned them as we came down on Starboard with boats inside of us. As Joanie said "classic deer in the headlights look". Shame cos it cost us a place and we all sailed well.
Niki has some great pictures of the super moon. BTW she is now a first class sailor. Trims the main better than I can.
Very impressed with the Torqueedo. We used it for basically 5 days and still had 20% left. I soldered up a connection for it so we can charge it from the solar panels/motor if we have to but it worked great.
