Storm Prep
17 August 2008 | Yes, still in Hudson
Sunny, 90"s
Most of the computer model forecasts show Fay either directly hitting us or giving us a glancing blow. Either way, we intend to be prepared. We'll take all the canvas off above decks (sails, dodger, bimini), secure the yak on shore, deflate the dingy and lash it down, and put out all the lines and fenders we can. I'll also help the marina with absentee owners' boats. Some people put their expensive boat in a slip and forget about it! These are the boats that end up causing the most damage to other boats.
Once all preparation is completed, we'll await the storms arrival at a hotel a little ways inland. We won't go to the room until the first bands hit just to make sure all is properly secured.
This is hilarious! We had hoped to be writing this entry at an anchorage in Clearwater! Obviously, discretion was the better part of valor. Well, as soon as this storm passes, we're out of here. If we don't leave soon, I think Kristen will jump ship and head home! She signed up to cruise, not toil in a marina with a grouchy husband.
