We motored out of Port Bailey and slowly through the Kupreanof Strait. As soon as we reached the Shelikof Strait toward the Alaska Peninsula, the wind and waves started to escalate. We had waves over three meters and wind was up 26 knots. Both wind and waves were on the beam (side) making it an uncomfortable ride. I felt seasick straight away so I went to bed and slept. I think that is how my body deals with the discomfort. Poor Ted had to shoulder the whole load again. Since it was only thirty miles, it was not too bad. We covered it in 4.5 hours because the high wind pushed us at about 7 knots. When I woke up, like magic, we were inside Geographic Harbor and sailing close to bush covered low lying hills. Further away, we were surrounded by high, treeless mountains. On our GPS we were able to follow a previous route traveled by Anika and Bjorn from S/V "Moon" five years ago in their previous boat. It led directly to a calm anchorage. The entrance to the anchorage was narrow and rocky; we would not have gone in there if S/V "Moon" and S/V "Liv" had not been there already. Once inside, it is like a mill pond. The scenery was unbelievable; the water was like a mirror, reflecting the mountains and shoreline. We launched the dingy ready for the next day and since it was already evening, we rested and waited until morning to hunt for bears (with our camera and binoculars of course).
