When we left Seward, the sea was relatively flat but the boat was rocking. We were docked for almost three weeks so probably I was not used to “Shuang Yu” moving. I took a seasickness pill just in case the rocking got worse.
When we got out of the bay into the open ocean, the rocking movement lessened and the sea was dead flat. Even though the wind came from a sailable direction, it was very light and we could not use it. There was no choice but to motor. We did not have to worry about the sails and the autopilot was working just fine so no hand steering. It was quite monotonous but on the other hand, we know the Gulf of Alaska is notorious for high winds and rough seas, so we appreciate, and are thankful for, each day that the sea is calm.
